Health & Education

Lion’s Head has substantial experience designing and implementing innovative financing models for health and education. Both sectors have traditionally been under the domain of the public sector, but are areas which benefit from ecosystem support from the private sector, donors and foundations. Our expertise encompasses new models for raising and deploying capital to achieve meaningful impact globally.

The Global Health Investment Fund is an $108mm USD social impact investment fund designed to provide financing to advance the development of drugs, vaccines, diagnostics and other interventions against diseases that disproportionately burden low-income countries. The GHIF was developed by Lion’s Head, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and JPMorgan Chase & Co. to catalyze investment activity that can deliver new technologies to address urgent global health challenges. The Fund provides a novel opportunity to help bring about significant improvements in the treatment and prevention of disease, along with the prospect of a net financial return for investors.

Lion’s Head has advised the Global Partnership for Education on a number of innovative financing approaches, evaluating the most appropriate structure for its global strategy and overall mission. Subsequently, Lion’s Head provided advisory services on implementation and pilot of a new financing structure: using GPE capital to catalyse additional development finance institution investment in education, while allowing developing countries to access concessional finance to achieve educational goals.
